How to make realistic AI videos

Clips read as fake for predictable reasons: too much happening, light that comes from nowhere, and camera moves no operator would make. Fix those three and the same model produces something that looks filmed.

Use real camera language

Describe the shot the way a director of photography would. "Handheld medium shot, slight breathing movement, 35mm, shallow depth of field" gives the model a physical camera to imitate. "Epic cinematic amazing shot" gives it nothing but adjectives.

  • Shot size — close-up, medium, wide
  • Movement — static, slow push, gentle orbit, handheld drift
  • Lens feel — 35mm, shallow depth of field, slight lens flare
  • Grain — 35mm grain and subtle motion blur read as real capture

Give the light a source

Realism is mostly lighting. Name where the light comes from: window light from the left, overcast afternoon, a single practical lamp, late golden sun behind the subject. Shadows that agree with one source are what convince the eye.

One shot, one action

Ask for a single continuous shot with no cuts, and give the subject one action. Two actions in one prompt make the model average them, which is where warped hands and sliding objects come from. Small, believable motion beats spectacle.

Keep it short

Realism degrades with duration. Five to eight seconds holds subject identity, texture and physics. If you need a longer sequence, render several short takes of the same scene from different angles and cut them together.

Start from a real photo

The most reliable route to realism is to hand the model reality. Upload a photograph and use image to video: the photo becomes the first frame, so the lighting, textures and proportions are already real and the model only has to add movement.

Checklist before you render

  • One subject, one action, one camera move
  • A named light source and time of day
  • A lens and grain description instead of vague adjectives
  • Duration under ten seconds
  • A draft render first, HD only for the keeper
